Ethiopia–Pakistan Fraternity Celebrated under Green Legacy Initiative of H.E. PM Dr. Abiy Ahmed

A special Green Legacy Forum and Plantation Ceremony was held at the National Agricultural Research Centre (NARC), Islamabad, marking a significant step in green collaboration between Pakistan and Ethiopia.

Speaking on the occasion, Secretary, Ministry of National Food Security & Research, Mr. Amir Muhyuddin, highlighted the importance of this partnership and appreciated Ethiopia’s leadership under Prime Minister Dr. Abiy Ahmed in advancing the Green Legacy Initiative.

He noted that Ethiopia is the only African nation never colonized, and this historical resilience is reflected today in its bold climate actions. "We must learn from Ethiopia," the Secretary said, admiring its achievements, such as the increase in forest cover from 17% to 24%, and the successful launch of one of the largest hydropower projects powering East Africa.

Mr. Amir Muhyuddin emphasized that actions speak louder than words, and Ethiopia’s environmental efforts serve as a replicable global model. “This remarkable initiative under the Green Legacy can inspire the whole world,” he added.

He also underlined the shared existential challenge of climate change, and reiterated Pakistan's commitment to building a climate-resilient future through global partnerships. “Our shared commitment to environmental sustainability brings us closer for common causes,” he stated.

Reflecting on the historic spiritual bond between both nations, the Secretary recalled Hazrat Bilal Habshi (RA), symbolizing the deep-rooted ties between Ethiopia and the Muslim world.

“Let’s join hands for global partnerships, and take collective action for a sustainable future,” the Secretary concluded.
