Minister Vows Uninterrupted Fertilizer Supply Ahead of Sowing Season

Federal Minister for National Food Security & Research, Rana Tanveer Hussain, held an extensive meeting today with Mr. Ali Rathore, Chief Executive Officer of Engro Fertilizers.. The discussion centered on ensuring uninterrupted fertilizer supply across the country, stabilizing prices for farmers, and introducing forward-looking measures to strengthen the agriculture sector’s resilience.

The Minister underscored that timely and affordable access to fertilizer is not merely a commercial matter but a critical pillar of Pakistan’s food security and economic stability. He reaffirmed the government’s commitment to protecting farmers from market manipulation by eliminating hoarding, curbing black marketing, and maintaining strict adherence to national quality standards. He emphasized that any disruption in the supply of fertilizer directly impacts crop yields and can jeopardize the livelihoods of millions of farming households.

Rana Tanveer Hussain called upon Engro Fertilizers to expand its distribution reach, particularly in remote rural areas, and to align its supply schedules with the agricultural calendar to avoid shortages during peak sowing periods. He also highlighted the need for innovation in delivery systems, including farmer facilitation centers and mobile supply networks, so that small-scale farmers have equal access to quality inputs.

The Minister further outlined the government’s vision to reduce reliance on imported fertilizers by boosting domestic production capacity, encouraging the use of modern, nutrient-efficient products, and promoting environmentally sustainable practices to protect soil health for future generations. He noted that digitizing the fertilizer supply chain and enhancing transparency will help stabilize the market and ensure equitable access for all farmers.

Mr. Ali Rathore welcomed the government’s initiatives and assured full cooperation, pledging that Engro Fertilizers will continue to supply quality fertilizers at fair prices, while also supporting farmer training programs to improve efficient and responsible fertilizer use.

The meeting concluded with a joint resolve to strengthen collaboration between the public and private sectors, ensuring sustainable agricultural growth, increased farmer profitability, and enhanced national food security.
