Rana Tanveer Hussain chaired a high-level meeting on the Olive Sector
Rana Tanveer Hussain chaired a high-level meeting on the Olive Sector to review the progress and roadmap for Pakistan's olive sector, highlighting the remarkable achievements under various olive development initiatives across the country.
Dr. Muhammad Tariq briefed that olive cultivation has expanded to more than 60,000 acres nationwide, with over 7.6 million olive saplings planted across Pakistan. These efforts are contributing to increased edible oil production, the sustainable use of marginal lands, job creation, environmental protection, and improved livelihoods for farmers.
Participants were informed on key milestones, including the establishment of olive nurseries, oil extraction units, processing facilities, quality testing laboratories, drip irrigation systems, weather stations, and extensive capacity-building programs benefiting thousands of stakeholders.
The meeting also noted Pakistan's growing international recognition in the olive industry, including full membership of the International Olive Council (IOC) and international awards won by Pakistani olive oil brands, placing Pakistan firmly on the global olive map.
Participants discussed future priorities for strengthening the olive value chain through improved certification, branding, marketing, value addition, private sector engagement, and farmer support services.
Emphasis was laid on promoting olive cultivation as a sustainable solution for food security, climate resilience, environmental conservation, and reduction in edible oil imports.
Pakistan's olive sector stands as a remarkable example of agricultural diversification, innovation, and long-term investment in a healthier, greener, and more prosperous future.
