Mr. Amir Mohyuddin, Secretary, Ministry of National Food Security & Research (MNFSR), met with the Russian delegation led by Mr. Maxim Uvaydov, Secretary of State/Deputy Minister of Agriculture of the Russian Federation. The following were discussed during the meeting:
?? The Secretary MNFSR briefed the delegation on the ongoing initiatives, achievements, and future priorities of the Ministry with a focus on strengthening agricultural trade between Pakistan and Russia.
?? The Russian side raised concerns regarding animal diseases and vaccination requirements in Pakistan and expressed interest in collaborating with private companies for vaccine supply. They assured the timely provision of quality vaccines and expressed readiness for Government-to-Business engagement.
?? The Secretary MNFSR further informed that the Government has approved the National Disease Control Programme worth PKR 7.3 billion, covering eight major diseases, including FMD and PPR. The project has been officially notified, and under WOAH guidelines, Pakistan is progressing from level 2 to level 3 disease control capability.
?? The Secretary appreciated the Russian efforts and highlighted Pakistan’s commitment to strengthening the livestock sector.
?? Both sides agreed to hold B2B meetings between Pakistani and Russian businesses to explore avenues for enhancing bilateral agricultural trade.
?? On wheat imports, the Russian side expressed willingness to export wheat. It was informed that the wheat import policy has been deregulated, allowing private sector imports.
?? The Russian side also expressed interest in exporting bananas to Pakistan.
?? Regarding fertilizer, the Secretary informed that Pakistan has sufficient urea but faces a deficiency in phosphate fertilizers, with around 50% of requirements met through imports. Both sides agreed to explore cooperation in this area.
?? Organic products and mutual recognition of organic certification systems were also discussed.
????? The meeting concluded with mutual appreciation and reaffirmation of commitment to enhancing cooperation in agricultural trade and related sectors.
