Rana Tanveer Hussain, Federal Minister for National Food Security & Research, held a virtual meeting with Mr. Alue Dohong, Assistant Director-General and Regional Representative for Asia and the Pacific of the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO). Both sides discussed enhanced cooperation in ?? agriculture, ??? climate resilience, ?? water management, ?? mechanization, ?? livestock development, and ?? digital agriculture in Pakistan.
The Minister highlighted Pakistan’s severe vulnerability to climate change despite its minimal contribution to global emissions and stressed the need for ?? international climate financing and stronger cooperation for sustainable agricultural transformation.
FAO appreciated Pakistan’s active role at APRC-38 held in Brunei Darussalam and reaffirmed its commitment to expanding collaboration in:
? Climate-resilient agriculture
? Indus Basin water management
? Livestock & rural livelihoods
? Sustainable rice & regenerative agriculture ??
? Land restoration & rangeland management ??
? Pandemic preparedness ??
The Minister requested the early appointment of a new FAO Representative in Pakistan following the departure of the previous representative and reaffirmed Pakistan’s desire to deepen cooperation with FAO.
Both sides also discussed Pakistan’s participation in the ?? Global Partnership on Transboundary Animal Diseases (GPP-TADs) and future collaboration on modern farming technologies, mechanization, and agri-food transformation.
