Federal Water Management Cell established in 1979. It deals with irrigation water sector problems, solutions, formulation of water resources development projects, agricultural mechanization policies & strategies and land development projects prepared in consultation with the stakeholders for ensured food security on sustainable basis. FWMC under its coordination completed various phases of OFWM projects in assistance of World Bank, ADB and JBIC etc.
To assist MinNFS&R in preparation of irrigation water management and agricultural mechanization policies/strategies;
To deal with schemes related to water resources development and farm mechanization.
To prepare and execute umbrella projects/schemes in consultation with all the stakeholders and Foreign Donors for enhancing land and water productivity.
To coordinate with the stakeholders and Foreign donor agencies for implementation of projects.
and To prepare manuals on water management for farmers and OFWM personnel.
Focal Point for Efficient Use of Water in ECO Member States – Establishment of ECO Centre for Efficient Use of Water for Agriculture in Islamabad.
Focal point for execution of IDB’s Technical Assistance (TA) Grant for Mini Dams Command Area Development Project in the Pothohar Region.
To promote cost effective modern techniques/technologies for improved land and water productivity in the country.
